“Huang Zu’s a villain to his core, rotten right down to his humours, and he means to destroy us all, like Xu Gong, so I have no problem with destroying his clan,” Bofu admitted. “If that’s what we should do, it suits me fine.”

Huang Zu was divided on whether he should be spearheading his navy or overseeing operations from within the military camp on land; his son Shè approached him and said, “Father, you should remain in the camp. I’ve failed before, but that will lower Sun Ce’s estimation of me and make him overconfident.”
Huang Zu smiled and said, “A valid point. I’d also like to try sailing a small detachment past his main fleet and either attacking from the rear of striking into the heart of Yuzhang, where support for the Suns is dwindling and Hua Xin, the court’s appointed Administrator, is said to be wavering again.”
Liu Biao’s nephew Liu Hu bowed and said, “I would like the honour of leading that stealth attack.”
Another of Liu Biao’s nephews, Liu Pan, said, “I will go with you.”
“No, no,” Huang Zu insisted. “You must stay, Liu Pan! I need you here in the camp as land forces co-commander and for general support; Chen Jiu can accompany Liu Hu.”
“As you command,” Chen Jiu said.
“…So it is decided,” Huang Zu said after a short pause for thought. “General Zhang Shuo, Liu Pan and I will hold the base and lead armies to attack Sun Ce on the land. My sons and Han Xi will lead the main naval force, and Chen Jiu and Liu Hu will attempt a flanking operation or, if the ‘reconnaissance at point’ deems that to be impossible, an attack on a target in Yuzhang that weakens support for our enemy and opens the way for a possible pincer. Let us begin.”

The Jing and Jiangdong navies were fairly evenly matched in terms of boats and men; the Sun clan benefitted from more individual commanders with charisma, and that would be one of the deciding factors.

Bofu, Gongjin, Sun Hè, Song Qian, Taishi Ci, Ling Cao, Zhou Tai and Jiang Qin led their men personally and engaged the smaller boat crews once again.
Are we just going to let Sun Ce rout us again?” Han Xi complained as he watched his enemies’ approach from the Jing command ship.
Of course not,” Huang Shè replied. “ARCHERS…!
The officers carried their lord’s command to the individual boats, and archers readied their bows for a missile attack against the Jiangdong forces.
ARCHERS!” a Jiangdong scout warned.
Huang Shè’s been talking to his father,” Cheng Pu said as he observed the developing battle from a medium-sized boat in the centre of the Jiangdong fleet.
Let this better Huang from a better line do something, Cheng Demou!” Huang Gai replied. “Archery Captain Fu, follow me!
Huang Gai led a small detachment of boats along the southern side of the main fleet and prepared to combat the Jing archers with archers of his own; Bofu, meanwhile, was forced to fall back as he narrowly avoided coming into range of the enemy arrow attack. His fearless general Ling Cao did not stop, however, and Zhou Tai was forced to retrieve him before he was struck.
For goodness’ sakes, man, show some sense!” Jiang Qin said as Ling Cao returned to the ‘safety point’. “If you have to charge a hail of arrows, at least have a plan first!
