Cover art: an artistic representation of China during the Han Dynasty; the region known as Jiangdong (lit. ‘River East’, which translates more accurately to ‘East of the River’) is shaded in light green (it is an approximate representation). The region is also known (more or less) as southern Yang Province, encompassing (clockwise from left) Yuzhang, Danyang, Wu, Guangling and Kuaiji Prefectures. The Sun family (who serve as protagonists in this work) hail from Wu Prefecture (Sun Jian, father of the founder of Eastern Wu, came from Fuchun in Wu).
